2016 “13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI”

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Debbi Baker, writing on July 29, 2015, the trailer for director Michael Bay’s new film about Benghazi is out and, like the subject itself, the clip already has people lining up on both sides of the aisle either blasting the soon-to-be-released film or praising it. The movie called “13 hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” stars John Krasinski, best known for his role as paper salesman Jim Halpert in “The Office,” as one of the security team members who rushed to the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, when it was attacked by Islamic militants on Sept. 11, 2012.
U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith and C.I.A. contractors Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed in a four-hour, rocket-propelled grenade assault on the consulate and a nearby annex. Woods and Doherty were both ex-Navy Seals who lived in San Diego.
Controversy and charges of a cover-up erupted shortly after the attack after U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice initially reported it was caused by a spontaneous uprising by a group of protestors outraged over an anti-Muslim video. Ten days and several conflicting reports later, White House officials said the assault was premeditated. There were also charges that the consulate did not have enough security. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took full responsibility for the attack and continues to be embroiled in the controversy that now involves her emails on the subject.
